We had the honor of photographing a session that would come to mean more than any of us could have imagined.
Ariel, one of four sisters, reached out with a heartfelt idea: a portrait session for her, her sisters, and their beloved mother’s day. She envisioned something timeless and elegant to celebrate the woman who raised them—something they could all look back on with joy. What began as a thoughtful gift turned into a deeply meaningful experience that none of us will ever forget.
Together, the women brought such warmth and intention to their session. They arrived at Lightworx Creative Studio with three beautifully coordinated looks—a bold and striking ensemble of red dresses that radiated confidence and love, followed by a cozy, neutral-toned set in beige and tan that felt effortlessly natural and connected. The energy between them was magnetic—laughs, hugs, knowing glances, and the kind of bond that only mothers and daughters can share. There, on that set, we even had the honor of helping one of the sister’s make her pregnancy announcement!
As the sun dipped low, we moved to the beach for a final round of portraits. There, the entire family—husbands and children—gathered to surround their matriarch. The golden light, the joy, the waves crashing behind them… it all came together in the most perfect, cinematic way. We didn’t know then just how much these images would come to mean.
Shortly after the session, we received heartbreaking news: their beautiful mother had passed away.
Our hearts broke for the family. And yet, in that sorrow, we also felt immense gratitude. Grateful that Ariel had the foresight to schedule this session. Grateful that we were able to preserve these memories—tangible, full of love, and deeply personal. These images are now more than just photos; they are a legacy.
To honor her memory, we worked with the family to create a custom reveal box filled with prints from every part of the session. A keepsake they can hold, revisit, and pass down. A tribute to the woman who raised them, loved them, and brought them all together.
This session is a reminder of how powerful photography can be. It’s more than lighting and styling—it’s about capturing moments that matter, while we still have the chance.
