Getting a email from a fellow photographer asking if you are available to photograph them is always a great feeling. It’s akin to having your work validated and especially when said photographer is celebrating major milestones in her life. Jamika wanted her Grand Bahama portrait session to be fun, colorful and filled with laughter to celebrate her birthday and hitting her weight loss goals! She suggested a location with colorful walls and I immediately thought of the newly renovated Vendor’s market, in Downtown Freeport. With bright colorful stalls, it was the perfect location for us to create some candid portraits of her.
As a photographer ( I can attest to this) It’s so difficult being on the other side of the lens. We are excellent at giving direction and coaching our portrait clients into effortless poses but when it comes to us, well we feel a bit… self conscious. After complementing her on her excellent styling choices and her amazing twist out (Why can’t my hair ever look that good?)we eased into the shoot using the environment to our advantage. Heading over to Cool Jenny’s Daiquiri shack we grabbed some sweet shots with coconuts and then headed over to our second location.
After a quick change of clothes (I loved her metallic silver loafers) we had a delivery of balloons. Jamika had ordered some beautiful foil numbers but somehow, let’s just say technical difficulties, they didn’t make the shoot. So we worked with plan B and had tons of fun with it.
Enjoy some of my faves from her session.
